Brazilian Butt Lift Q & A

Santa Barbara Body Sculpting

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift —  also referred to as buttock augmentation or gluteal augmentation —  is a procedure wherein Dr. Giuffrida uses liposuction to take fat from parts of your body like your stomach and waist, and transfers that fat to your buttocks.

Besides giving you fuller, rounder buttocks, the procedure can give you a flatter stomach and smaller waist.

With a traditional buttock lift, surgeons use synthetic implants. But your body fat can be more pliable and easier to work with.

Dr. Giuffrida is also the only doctor in the Santa Barbara area that can conduct this procedure with the option of you staying conscious during the liposuction process, a method known as “Awake Liposuction.”

What can I expect after a Brazilian Butt Lift?

Most patients are up and walking within a day or two after their Brazilian Butt Lift, and if there is any pain, over-the-counter pain relievers will usually do the trick.

Some fluid may drain where Dr. Giuffrida makes incisions to take the fat and will stop within a few days after the surgery. He'll put a compression garment on the liposuction incision sites to help relieve the swelling and help you heal.

When can I sit on my buttocks after a Brazilian Butt Lift?

You shouldn’t sit directly on your newly lifted buttocks for about eight weeks after the surgery, and Dr. Giuffrida suggests you sleep on your side or stomach. Staying off your buttocks while you heal helps safeguard the transferred fat cells.

At your follow-up appointment, you and Dr. Giuffrida will talk about what to do while continuing your recovery period, such as not sitting for long periods of time to allow continued healing in the augmented area.

How soon after my Brazilian Butt Lift can I go back to my regular activities?

Avoid bouncing activities for about a month, and after that, you can engage in fast-paced walking for exercise. Most patients go back to their routine within eight weeks of the surgery.
